EDUCATIONAL TECHNOLOGY CERTIFICATE PROGRAM

Picture of Educators around a ComputerThe Educational Technology Certificate Program is designed to meet the needs of educators, primarily in the K-12 setting, who seek to utilize new technologies in their schools and classrooms. Participants have the opportunity to improve their own skills in the use of technology, including Web 2.0 technologies, and develop approaches for teaching others using technology.

  • How to infuse the technology into your classroom
  • How to be a better teacher through technology

Offered in School Districts Across Michigan and Online

Three Certificate Formats To Choose From

  • The Certificate is offered in three different delivery formats.
    • Weekend Format - Friday evenings (4:30pm-10pm) and Saturdays (8:30am-4:30pm)
    • Summer Accelerated Format- Monday - Thursday or Friday from 8:30am-4:30pm
    • Online Format- 8 week accelerated courses

Certificate Requirements

To earn the Educational Technology certificate, you must successfully complete the following three courses:

  • CEP 810:  Teaching for Understanding with Computers (3 Credits)
    • Microsoft Word
    • Microsoft PowerPoint
    • Microsoft Excel
    • Internet Safety and Security
    • RSS Feeds and Readers

  • CEP 811:  Adapting Innovative Technologies to Education (3 Credits)
    • Instructional principles and methods to educational problems
    • Web Site Design

    • Advanced PowerPoint

  • CEP 812: Applying Educational Technology To Problems Of Practice 
    (3 Credits)
    • Develop, present, and evaluate potentially fundable plans for the implementation of technology in educational/training settings.

Upon successful completion of the three courses (9 graduate credits), students will receive a Certificate from the College of Education. 

Masters Level Courses

Please note: If you are going to apply for the Master’s degree, you can transfer in no more than 9 graduate credits. Therefore, you should not take any more than three courses (the Certificate) before applying to the Master's. In addition, the Certificate is not the same thing as state teaching certification.  However these three courses are part of the Educational Technology (NP) Endorsement requirements.
